The results of the 2009 Manga Jiman Competition were announced at a reception held at The Embassy of Japan on 12 February 2010. 100 entries were received this year, double the number of entries received in the first competition, 2 years ago.
The first prize was awarded to Yuri Ko, with her entry ¡ÆThe boy who runs from the Sun¡Ç. Of Ms Ko¡Çs work, judge Kiriko Kubo said ¡Æher drawing is beautiful and her characters are very charming¡Ç.
Second prize, was awarded to Ms Zarina Liew with her entry ¡ÆThe Sun and the Moon¡Ç. Third Prize was awarded to Mr David Lander with his entry, ¡ÆLast Drink¡Ç.

Ms Kubo also said ¡ÆI would also like to mention Evelyne Hewett's 'Sunny & The Bluebirds', which won the prize for Special Prize for most impressive Manga by entrant aged 14-16. Her work made me feel her passion and love for manga.¡Ç
These entries, as well as the entries placed fourth to tenth, are currently on display at The Embassy of Japan, until 9 April 2010. Don¡Çt miss your chance to see these works by the Manga stars of tomorrow.

Competition judge Ilya, a manga creator, tutor and editor remarked 'Do look long and hard at the winning entries on display. You will see the wide variety, both in art style and story' and, in a message to manga creators, he said 'Be prepared to make your own work stand out from the pack by making it more personal, as well as professional in appearance.' |
