In Japan, people say “Kanpai!” (Cheers!) before enjoying a drink.  One might perhaps see this word as being made up of “kanpa”, meaning “donation” and derived from the Russian word “kampanya” (campaign), and “i (ai)” (love).

Hasegawa Saketen, a well-known sake shop in Japan,¡¡is bringing a group of sake brewers from all over Japan to the UK. The Embassy of Japan is making the most of their presence here by co-hosting with Hasegawa Saketen a charity event in aid of the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami.

Ikenobo Ikebana will also cooperate in this event.  Mr Showka Ishiwata, a distinguished floral artist, will demonstrate the traditional Japanese art of IKEBANA, including the ancient flower arrangement ceremony of REISHIKI-IKE, used in religious rites and to greet important guests for centuries, and RIKKA, an elaborate and beautiful style dating from the late nineteenth century.

Some of the top Japanese restaurants and food shops will take part, enabling guests to savour a range of traditional Japanese cuisine.  Zuma and Roka will give a live sushi demonstration with the support of Tazaki Foods and S.K.Y. Enterprise. In addition, a variety of Japanese dishes will be provided courtesy of Mitsukoshi Restaurant, Oisi Restaurant, Cocoro Restaurant, Yashin, Hello Kitchen and Sky Gourmet.
