To commemorate the ongoing exhibition 'Visions of Paradise - The Japanese Garden in the UK', the Embassy of Japan will host an evening with two presentations highlighting aspects of Japanese Gardens in the UK. We will welcome bamboo specialist Ray Townsend, Arboretum Manager at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. You may be surprised to find out that what we consider to be an essential element of a Japanese garden, may not, in fact, be the case. Jill Raggett, Reader in Gardens and Design and Landscapes at Writtle College, Chelmsford, will explore the wide variety of Japanese style gardens in the UK. This will be an irresistible night for garden lovers and open our eyes to British perceptions of Japanese-ness.
