Experience Club Taishikan
:

School groups of 30 or less are welcomed to the Embassy for cultural workshops and to learn more about Japan. The visit lasts approximately 2 hours and involves workshops on calligraphy, origami and yukata. There is also a slide show on life in Japan.

Visits are normally held on Thursday afternoons. Activities are recommended for students over 10 years of age.

Club Taishikan presentations:

Calligraphy

Students are introduced to the Japanese writing system and then shown how to write Japanese characters. Students are encouraged to take their work home with them to display at school.

Pupils from Ardingly College show off their calligraphy masterpieces

Origami

Many students have done some form of Origami before, so every effort is made to introduce them to new shapes. All students are taken carefully through each stage of paper folding until they have made an authentic shape. Again students are encouraged to take home their work to display at school.

Kimono

In this workshop, students are first introduced to kimono and then all students are dressed in Yukata (summer cotton kimono) or Happi coat for a group photo.
