Japanese Government (MEXT) Undergraduate Scholarships in Japanese Studies

The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) offers scholarships to UK undergraduates enrolled on Japanese Studies courses in the UK who wish to study in Japan for one year as part of their degree.

Applicants must be between 18 and 30 years old, UK nationals and registered as full time students both when they leave for Japan and when they return to the UK.

The scholarship is tenable for one year at a university decided by MEXT, however applicants can state their preference from a selection of universities at interview.

Students will take courses in the Japanese language and participate in all aspects of university life - attending lectures, joining sports clubs etc. This is an excellent opportunity to integrate fully into the Japanese community as well as secure a solid knowledge of the Japanese language.

A maximum of four scholarships are available every year.

The Japanese Government provides living expenses, university fees and return air fare.
