Study Tour of Japan for European Youth 2006

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs invites young Europeans to participate in a ten-day study tour of Japan.

 

The aim of this tour is to inspire the participants' interest by giving them an opportunity to observe various aspects of Japan (i.e. politics, economy, culture, society etc.) and thereby deepen their understanding of the country. It is hoped that the participants, with their increased knowledge of Japan, will be instrumental in strengthening future ties between Japan and European countries.

 

Programme details:

  1. Duration (plan)
    Ten days in October or November 2006
  2. Number of Participants
    A total of 60 people from the 34 European countries listed below
  3. Content of Study (plan)
    (a) Lectures, observational visits and personal experiences which offer the participants an insight into cultural, economic and political aspects of Japan from both traditional and modern viewpoints
    (b) Exchange of ideas and opinions with Japanese people
    (c) Extensive travel around Japan
    (d) Stay with a host family
  4. The activities of this study tour will be conducted in English

Requirements

 

Applicants are required to:

  1. be a national of one of the following countries:
    Andorra (apply at the Japanese Embassy in France), Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus (apply at the Japanese Embassy in Greece), Denmark, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein (apply at the Japanese at Embassy in Switzerland), Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta (apply at the Japanese Embassy in Italy), Monaco (apply at the Japanese Embassy in France), the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino (apply at the Japanese Embassy in Italy), Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, the United Kingdom
  2. be aged 18-35 as of June 2006
  3. be able to communicate effectively in English
  4. Others:
    • Applicants should have never visited Japan before and should not have any concrete plan to do so in the near future.
    • Applicants should be flexible, sociable and well suited to participating in group activities.

How to apply (for British Nationals)

Applicants should write (1) a short essay (1 side of A4, single placed) in (English) on one of the following themes:

  • "WHAT CAN JAPAN DO FOR YOU?"
  • "WHAT ASPECTS OF JAPANESE CULTURE INTEREST YOU?"

This short essay, along with (2) a CV , (3) a data form , and (4) a covering letter should be submitted by post by 14 July:
