The Embassy is holding in-service training for teachers who wish to teach about Japan in their classrooms. We aim to provide teachers with new and imaginative ways of incorporating Japan into the National Curriculum as well as to promote better understanding of Japan among the younger generation. These workshops are administrated by Japan 21. Primary school teachers' workshops focus generally on cross-curricular topics and activities such as haiku, origami and crafts. Secondary teachers' workshops may focus on geography, art, music, food technology, history and citizenship. Teachers who have taken part in the workshops have commented that the helpful knowledge and new skills they obtained have helped them to "effectively introduce a non-European element into the classroom".
