What's New

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme Alumni Association is a volunteer organisation established to bring together former JETs, provide a forum for exchanging information and foster links between our home communities and Japan. JETAA UK has six chapters across the country that organise social and careers-related events for their members locally. The JETAA UK website (www.jetaa.org.uk) provides details of these events, as well as job-related information, a forum for discussion and a friend-finder function, which allows former JETs to keep in touch with each other.

Any ex-JET interested in joining a JETAA chapter in the UK should visit the JETAA UK website to sign up online. For more information about JETAA contact:

JET Alumni Teacher Database

Are you an ex-JET now teaching in the UK?

In recent years massive strides have been made in improving levels of awareness about Japan in the UK. In order for this to continue the Embassy of Japan, the Japan Foundation and Japan 21 have actively been trying to promote Japan-related learning in this country.

Today there are over 300 British schools teaching Japanese, both at the secondary and primary level. Moreover, as Japan is included in the national curriculum for both history and geography, most secondary schools cover Japan as a topic at some stage.

While on JET, participants acquire a wealth of knowledge about Japan. We recognise that those who remain in education after JET are in an excellent position to help contribute towards creating awareness about Japan among young people.

The Embassy is therefore seeking to create a database of former JET participants who are presently teaching or undergoing teacher training in the UK. Through this network we hope to facilitate an exchange of information, provide teaching materials in order to help enhance the quality of lessons and continue to expand the teaching of the Japanese language.

If you are interested in joining the database please submit your name, details of when and where you were on the JET Programme, and the name of the institution at which you are teaching to: education@ld.mofa.go.jp Alternatively, call the Education Officer on: 020 7465-6573.

*The information you submit will not be shared with any organisation outside the Embassy of Japan, the Japan Foundation and Japan 21.
