What's New

Participants recruited by this Embassy must be nationals of the United Kingdom, i.e. hold a valid UK passport; candidates from other participating countries are recruited by the Japanese diplomatic mission in that country. Non-UK passport holders may find it useful to consult the main JET website in Japan.

Applicants must, in principle, be under 39 years of age and hold the equivalent of a bachelor's degree by the time they begin their contract in Japan. They must speak standard English and be generally interested in Japan and teaching.

New this year:

The upper age limit is now 39 (by the time of departure)

Former JET participants can now reapply (pre-1996 participants only)

Applicants cannot have lived in Japan for more than 3 years of the last 8 (please refer to www.jet-uk.org for more details on this).

If you are unsure whether you are eligible or not, please contact the JET Desk.

Application material will be available from www.jet-uk.org during the application intake period. The closing date for completed applications is normally in late November. We suggest that application material be obtained as soon as possible after the date of issue, as the application procedure is quite lengthy.

The selection of candidates, through a process of rigorous screening takes place between November and February.

Please see the UK JET Programme website at www.jet-uk.org for further details.
