Enough to Surprise Hiroshige, ‘One Hundred Famous Views of the City’, Kenji Sakatsugi
10 March 2011, London
We are delighted to welcome a qualified guide of the City of London, Mr Kenji Sakatsugi for a special series of events. Inspired by his love of walking, Mr Sakatsugi now, alongside his day job at a banking company, conducts many guided walks at weekends on the theme of ‘Walk the City; See the World’.
The theme of this lecture is Enough to Surprise Hiroshige, ‘One Hundred Famous Views of the City’. Packed with detail, this talk will include the surprising features which Tokyo’s Nihonbashi and London Bridge have in common, similarities between Edo as depicted by Hiroshige and the City of London, the mysteries of the orientation of St Paul’s Cathedral, the birth of the Stock Exchange and the tantalising glimpses of towers and steeples as you wander round the City.
There may be many members who have had little cause to visit the City, whom this talk will entice to wander in that direction. Others, who frequently find themselves on foot in that area, may well find their walks change for good. This talk is designed to instil fresh excitement and deepen the pleasure of experiencing both cities.
The slide lecture will last about two hours (including questions and a short interval). It will be in Japanese, with translation into English.
As a follow up to this lecture, Kenji Sakatsugi will provide a June guided walking tour in the City for Japan Soceity Members. Do take this opportunity to join us for an informative and entertaining evening.
To reserve your place, please call the Japan Society office on 020 7828 6330 or email events@japansociety.org.uk .
A pay bar is available before the lecture
