A series of workshops on Japan will be held on five cosecutive Friday afternnons from 2 to 4pm by University of Strathclyde Equality & Diversity Office and Japan Desk Scotland. The workshops will be free and open to the public.

Several cultural traits found among people from Japan, especially those relating to inter-cultural communication, will be presented.

‘A Japanese view on Scotland and Glasgow’
Japan Desk Scotland’s two documentaries will be screened: ‘Our Scotland: A Japanese perspective‘ (2013) and ‘The bird, the tree, the bell and the fish of Glasgow’ (2014)

‘Scotland-Japan Historical Relations’
Scotland, especially Glasgow, occupied a unique place in Japan’s modernisation efforts from the middle of the 19th century, for example Japan’s first engineering college headed by a young Scot.

'Peace’
What is peace? Japan Desk Scotland’s ‘Hiroshima in 2013‘ (2013) and ‘Make peace in the Philippines‘ (2015) will be screened.

‘Fukushima’
Japan Desk Scotland’s two documentaries will be screened: ‘Our friends in Fukushima‘ (2013) and ’100 Bq/Kg, 0.23 μSv/h: The standard of living in Fukushima’ (2014).
