Translation and the public dissemination of science in Meiji-era Japan – with Ruselle Meade

Ruselle Meade is a lecturer in Japanese studies in the School of Modern Languages at Cardiff University, where she teaches Japanese history, language and translation. He research focuses on public representations of science in modern Japan, with a focus on the Meiji period. Her current work examines the methods and motives of those engaged in the translation and popularization of science, and seeks to understand the effects of their activities on emerging professional and national identities.
