The Creative Industries in Japan
19 March 2014, London
Seminar: ‘The Creative Industries in Japan’.
The creative industries have become an increasingly important topic in Japan in recent years. The focus is no longer exclusively on manufacturing and productivity, for which Japan is well-known, but has shifted to nurturing creativity and culture and becoming a branded ‘cool’ nation. In this lecture Dr Oyama will talk about the opportunities and challenges that this shift involve –and especially what she sees as fundamental contradictions within the Japanese creative industries discourse. Speaker: Dr Shinji Oyama, Birkbeck, University of London:
