Koichi Andoh came to Hebden Bridge in 1935 to work for and teach hatchery workers the art of « chicken Sexing »  His amazing journey saw him sail from Nagoya to London by steam ship and then travel by train to Hebden Bridge. Koichi kept a diary from th day he left Nagoya until the day he returned to his beloved Japan six months later. Takayoshi only discoverd the diary and a photo album in the late 1990's and he made a trip to Hebden Bridge in 2001 to see where his father had worked. He stayed at Stephen's guest house « Angeldale » and as a result they agreed to translate the diary and make it available to a wider readerhip. Stephen's talk will be preceeded by a short introduction by Ann Kilbey into the history of the hatchery industry in the Upper Calder Valley and why the expert Japanese 'sexers' came to the area.
