Dedication of Japanese Earthquake Memorial Cherry Tree Orchard at Chiddingstone Castle, Kent
11 March 2012, Kent
To mark the anniversary of the tragic Great East Japan Earthquake, the Trustees and Staff of the Denys Eyre Bower Bequest at Chiddingstone Castle would like to invite visitors from Japan to visit the castle free of charge to join in the dedication of a Memorial Cherry Tree Orchard in the gardens. These prunus yedoensis have been privately donated and will be officially dedicated and blessed by the Reverend Martin Beaumont at 2.46pm.
The castle will be open from 2 – 5pm for visitors to enjoy the fascinating rooms and historic collections – not least the remarkable collection of Japanese lacquer and ancient Samurai armour and swords. It is this collection that provides the link to the castle’s close relationship with Japan.
