Japanese Databases Workshop in London

27 September 2013, London

-A basic introduction to JapanKnowledge & Asahi Shimbun Kikuzo II-

Researchers and students of Japanese Studies often face difficulty in collecting research materials outside Japan. Japanese databases are very useful tools to get the necessary information quickly and easily. We will cover two popular Japanese databases which are widely used around the world in this workshop, to assist all those involved in Japanese Studies in the UK.

JapanKnowledge: JapanKnowledge is a one stop database of Japanese dictionaries and encyclopedias. JapanKnowledge contains more than 50 different types of contents from a wide range of sources including Japan’s leading encyclopedias, specialized dictionaries, series and magazines. Using search and browse functions, put the reliable, high-quality knowledge and information from these sources to use when compiling studies, writing reports and generating new ideas. Asahi Shimbun Kikuzo II Visual: The Asahi Shimbun is the leading newspaper in Japan. Kikuzo II Visual, an online commercial database of the Asahi Shimbun, presently enables users to search more than 13 million articles and advertisements in the paper since its first issue in 1879 (year 12 of the Meiji Era). In addition, Kikuzo II Visual includes magazines such as AERA and Shukan Asahi, an up-to-date modern dictionary Chiezo, the Who's Who Database and the Historical Photo Archive. In April 2013, Navigation Search has been added as a new feature to the search mode, and Asahi Graph, a pictorial magazine established in 1923, has been added as a new optional content.
