Okinawa Day 2015
20 June 2015, London
Okinawa Day 2014 at Spitalfields was successfully visited by over 8000 visitors and received overwhelming press coverage. Okinawa Day 2014 has also welcomed new performers, Karate group and stall holders to celebrate the joy and energy of Okinawan culture. Due to such success and demand, the Committee of Okinawa Day has decided to hold Okinawa Day 2015 with our venue partner, Spitalfields, which has close links with global cultural events such as the annual Spitalfields Music Festival, Vietnam Festival and the Japan Matsuri.
Our mission for Okinawa Day 2015 is to introduce Okinawan culture further in the U.K and enrich our existing relationship between the U.K and Okinawa which has been established through our previous Okinawa Day events. We are also keen to encourage more and more U.K audience to participate in future Okinawa related events and to create an Okinawan cultural hub in the U.K.
We are planning to present the following events at the main square – performing arts (folk and classical songs accompanied by sanshin lute, drumming performance and eisa dance).
The prospective programme includes: ¡¦Ryukyu Music, Eisa Dance and workshops, Karate performances ¡¦Okinawa day stall ¡¦Arts and Crafts Stalls from Okinawa
