The much-loved JAPAN MATSURI returns to London on SATURDAY 6 OCTOBER and this year it’s in Trafalgar Square in the centre of London. This dynamic annual event brings people together to enjoy Japanese food, music, dance, family activities and much, much more.
Everything kicks off at 11 am and runs through till 9 pm. On the performance stage at various times throughout the day are our special guests from Japan putting everyone through their paces with Radio Taiso, exercise routines which all Japanese people have grown up with. There is spectacular taiko drumming, music from Okinawa, the vigorous rhythms of Tsugaru Shamisen, Japanese dance, the many violins of the British Suzuki Institute, Lolita fashion from the Tea Party Club, children from the Japanese School, J-Pop with Naomi Suzuki Gekijo and a live Nodo Jiman karaoke contest with great prizes. On the martial arts stage experience the thrilling demonstrations of skill with experts in the disciplines of karate, judo, kendo, aikido, iaido and naginata.
Enjoy the atmosphere of a Japanese festival with food from the numerous stalls. All the family can join in the fun in the activities area with games and dressing in kimono. Try your hand Japanese cartoons on the manga wall.
