Life in Suetsugi
1 - 12 March 2017, London
This exhibition focuses on people’s ordinary life in Suetsugi after the 2011 earthquake off the Pacific coast of Tohoku. Since then, the photographer Jun Takai has been taking pictures of people’s life and their way to regain the confidence and the culture in the hometown ‘Suetsugi’, is a village on the outskirts of the town of Hisanohama in Iwaki city, Fukushima prefecture. Extending from the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, this long and narrow village is located at about 27km south of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. In March 2011, nearly all of the population of the village had no choice but to evacuate upon the request of Iwaki city council.
This exhibition is supported by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
