After the Earthquake: Japanese New Media Art Showcase
27 August 2018, Liverpool
On August 27 (Bank Holiday), JETAA NW will be collaborating with Mike Stubbs, Director of FACT, who will discuss the growing partnership developing between Kobe and Liverpool. Sharing histories of resilience, international trading, growing interests in Bio-Tech, port expansion, and artist-led creative industries, there are many opportunities for a collaboration between the two cities being explored leading up to the 2020 Olympics in Japan which coincides with the 25th commemoration of the Great Hanshin Earthquake in Kobe in 1995. Mr Stubbs will also present the best of contemporary new media artists’ work from Japan he has had the privilege to work with. The talk will include discussion of the background and purpose of FACT, and an introduction to ContemptArt and Technology and art in the context of the Liverpool Biennale 2018. Artists showcased include Ryoichi Kurokawa, Ryoichi Ikeda, Keiko Kimoto, Meiro Koizumi, Daito Watanabe and Teamlab. The talk will be followed by an informal wine reception.
