Noritake Kinash London Exhibition -moment-

21 - 24 June 2018, London

In June, for the first time in the UK, anglophile and polymath, Noritake Kinashi, the Japanese artist, actor, musician and comedian, will be exhibiting the latest phase of his ongoing creative project, ‘REACH OUT’.

Noritake Kinashi’s passion for drawing started at an early age, inspired by the physical landscape and the feeling it evokes, for him, the act of drawing was, as it still is now, very personal. Kinashi reached a creative turning point in 1994 in Paris on a shoot for a TV programme, when he had to make, without any preparation, on a large canvas with a black marker pen, a drawing of the landscape along the Seine. This experience led him to produce an extensive body of work upon his return to Japan and to his first solo exhibition in the same year.

Kinashi’s signature style often involves the reoccurring motif and daily objects, and represents his intuitive take on humanity. With his dynamic and non-conformist, yet evolving brush style, the exhibition, a reflection of his fundamental artistic beliefs, will showcase a series of paintings created as a result of his unique observational point of view.

Noritake Kinash London Exhibition -moment- comes on the heels of his retrospective exhibition, Kinashi Noritake Exhibition x 20 years INSPIRATION - moment of curiousity, which toured eight major museums in Japan between 2014 and 2016, attracting 430,000 visitors. Additionally, he held a highly acclaimed solo exhibition in NY in 2015. For the London exhibition, the pieces on show have been specially selected and are being shown for the first time. They will then be travelling back to Japan to be included in a major nationwide-touring, solo exhibition from 2018-2020.

Kinashi says, “To kick off this show in London is a very personal matter to me, since I am often inspired by the raw energy and creativity that London offers. Being a comedian on the other hand, I have always believed in the power of laughter, which encourages peace within oneself. Therefore, I express the same thought on canvas. That is my message.”
