Tama the Cat

18 July 2011, London

“In Celebration!”, a series of events specially devised to allow audiences to meet distinguished personalities from the worlds of arts & entertainment and to enjoy informed conversations & performances within one of London’s most historic and beautiful buildings. All guests will also enjoy light refreshments and gain VIP entry to private showings of the museum’s latest exhibition on the evening of each event.

A unique celebration of Japanese culture, tradition and craft, this event is the result of a collaborative effort between The Fan Museum and our friends Richard Ogden Jewellers (of Burlington Arcade). The evening comprises of several aspects, each unified by a common theme: Japan, the ‘land of the fan’. Beginning with a reading of ‘Tama the Cat’ (written by Robert Ogden), guests will also enjoy a rare opportunity to view a selection of Japanese fans from The Fan Museum’s collections. Assisted by Pauline Chakmakjian of The Japan Society, the museum’s Curators will shed light on this fascinating culture through the medium of fans. Proceeds from the sale of Tama the Cat books and fans will go directly to the Japan Society’s Earthquake Relief Fund.
