The Potential of the Japanese Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Market
2 May 2013, London
Japan is a a major, technologically-sophisticated healthcare market, with a rapidly ageing population. At the same time, the country has a strong research base, with particular strengths in the application of electronics to medical and social needs. Its leading pharma companies, Astellas, Eisai and Takeda are cash rich, but are global also-rans behind the giant American and European competitors. Their global strategies are evolving and combine some M&A, some in-house research and a fair amount of in-licensing. This seminar will look at the investment and market potential in Japan for western investors and exporters. It will also look at the global positioning of the Japanese pharma companies. We aim to identify some of the areas for potential new collaborations between the UK and Japan.
