Bored and stuck in school for the summer, a group of school girls in northern Japan get out of class for the day, to deliver lunches to the school brass band. When an unfortunate incident leaves all but one of the band struck down with illness, the pressure is on to form a new group in time for the upcoming school baseball game. Realising the opportunity to skip class all summer, the girls kindly offer their 'help'. Though more interested in having fun than in actually practicing, slowly but surely the Swing Girls (and a boy) find their rhythm...
From the same makers as the hit Japanese films Waterboys (2001) and Shall we Dance (1996), Swing Girls provides an entertaining tale of those in search of something to believe in.
It won seven prizes at the 2005 Japanese Academy Awards.
