Zero Point
25 - 27 May 2017, London
Zero Point represents a new direction for British choreographer and multi-disciplinary artist Darren Johnston. He explores the intersection of the spiritual and the scientific with minimalism and simplicity inspired by his time spent in Kochi, Japan. Creating a seamless fusion between visual arts, theatre and dance he merges choreography with architectural projections and an ambient score by electronic music pioneer Tim Hecker.
Performed by an ensemble of Japanese dancers, including ballet dancer Hana Sakai, their physicality and range of movement within the light sculptures echo the paradoxes between technology and tradition in Japanese culture.
With the additional visceral power of the frequencies of Tim Hecker’s soundscape, a metaphor for consciousness, the experience is illusory and immersive.
Strobe lights are used during this performance.
