
Honjo Hidetaro: The Shamisen a free concert

Honjoh Hidetaro is an acclaimed Shamisen player and composer. Having mastered traditional Japanese music forms including Nagauta, Kouta and Min’yo, he founded the Honjoh School in 1971 and created Risogaku, an original music style. Honjoh works internationally, composing for film, television and theatre, and is the composer of the haunting soundtrack to Complicite and Setagaya Public Theatre’s Shun-kin, playing at the Barbican, London from 4-13 November.
In this special pre-show concert, Honjoh will perform a selection of traditional and original Shamisen pieces, offering a rare opportunity to hear the instrument performed live.
