CHIHIRO YAMANAKA ELECTRIC TRIO "THE SPHERES"
14 & 15 aPRIL 2017, London
A welcome return for Japanese- born, New York City-based pianist Chihiro Yamanaka, a star of the 2015 Ronnie Scott’s International Piano Festival, and now a firm club favourite. One of her native country’s most popular artists, she has been compared to the likes of Oscar Peterson and Mulgrew Miller and has recorded twenty albums principally for the Verve/Universal label, many of which have featured US heavyweights such as bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts. Away from her own recordings she has also worked with the likes of George Benson, Gary Burton, Terri Lyne Carrington, Curtis Fuller, George Russell and Ed Thigpen,
She appears here with her powerfully dynamic, all female band who recorded her recent acclaimed recording ‘The Spheres’ for Blue Note Records. Expect virtuosic, light-speed chops, and an irresistible swing to her playing alongside playful virtuosic re-workings of everything from Thelonious monk to Beethoven! Highly recommended for anyone interested in straight-ahead jazz
Tickets: £20.00 - £45.00
