London Jazz Festival : Makoto Kuriya & Tony Lakatos

10 November 2012, London

These gigs provide a golden opportunity to see these two internationally renowned artists perform together for the first time!

Japanese - born piano genius, Makoto Kuriya graduated from West Virginia University with a major in linguistics, but he was drawn to studying music. When he returned to Japan, he did an ensemble with jazz-legend and pianist Herbie Hancock at the Tokyo Jazz Festival, one of the biggest festivals in Japan. He is one of a few Japanese artists who is trying to put their own cultural imprint on the music. He is now devoting his efforts to "authenticating Japanese jazz" - maintaining a distinctive cultural identity and bringing a Western-free localized Japanese jazz sound to the world!
