
MIEKO SHIMIZU PERFORMES NEW ALBUM I BLOOM FEATURING KEIKO KITAMURA ON KOTO

London based Japanese artist Mieko Shimizu performs her new album ‘I Bloom’ which will be released in February 2019. Her enigmatic poetry woven on nostalgic piano melodies meets ambient electronic sonics. She features Keiko Kitamura on Koto in her latest performance. This classical Japanese instrument is given an innovative aural twist through the use of multi effect processors. The marriage of the traditional acoustic Koto and Mieko’s contemporary creative edge produces a beautiful tapestry of ancient and modern.
Mieko Shimizu: Mieko Shimizu is a composer, singer, producer and songwriter based in London, working with both acoustic and contemporary electronic music. Her unique music spans contemporary classical, electronic, ambient and experimental. She has released six solo albums under names of Mieko Shimizu, Mico and Apache 61 from Teichiku Records/ Japan, Recommended Records/ UK, Haruomi Hosono’s Daisy World Discs/ Japan and contributed many tracks for compilation albums from Lawand Auder Records, Ninja Tune, Monica Enterprise. She has currently finished her new album ‘I Bloom’ which will be released in January 2019.
Keiko Kitamura: Keiko was born in Fukuyama, Hiroshima prefecture. Her early years were spent studying koto, shamisen and vocals under the tutelage of her aunt Kyoko Kitamura, an Ikuta-ryu grand master. She is based in the UK and has worked extensively with a variety of traditional Japanese and contemporary Western musicians. Highlight performances to date include London Olympic Festival BT River Of Music, Glastonbury Festival, Ronnie Scotts and BBC Radio 3. She was an award winner for her koto composition at the Miyagi Michio Memorial Contest 2014. She is a member of SO-DO Academy of Music which is lead by Tomoko Sunazaki.
