A Sense of Wonder
Tomohiro Maekawa in Conversation

3 August 2010, London

Tomohiro Maekawa is an intriguing Japanese playwright whose plays contain ideas of science fiction such as aliens and parallel realities, and elements of the occult. His compelling works have caused a stir in Japanese theatre in recent years making Maekawa one of Japan’s most popular playwrights. He also directs for his own company, Ikiume and his productions have received rave reviews from Japanese audiences and critics alike.

In this illustrated conversation, Maekawa will, for the first time in the UK, discuss the style and philosophy of his work, and his approach to playwriting by showcasing some past examples. Maekawa has been selected as one of the resident playwrights in this year’s Royal Court International Residency programme and will talk about his first experience of working with UK professionals gained through this prestigious programme.

This event is a very special opportunity to hear from one of the most sought-after and exciting playwrights Japan has produced in recent years, responsible for setting a new standard at forefront of contemporary theatre.

This event is organised in association with the Royal Court Theatre.
