Motoki Hirai Lunchtime Piano Recital as part of St Martin’s Embassy Series representing the Embassy of Japan

Acclaimed worldwide for his imagination and sensitivity, London-based composer-pianist Motoki Hirai will be giving a piano lunch time recital on July 19th at St martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square in London as part of St Martin’s Embassy Series representing the Embassy of Japan. His appealing programme will include his own work ‘Scenes from a Native Land’ (2005) alongside masterpieces from the standard repertoire.

Beethoven : Piano Sonata No 27 in E minor, Op. 90

Motoki Hirai : Scenes from a Native Land (‘Fantasie­Japonaise’) [2005]

Albeniz : Rumores de la Caleta (‘Malaguena’)

Schubert (arr. Liszt) : Litany

Chopin : Scherzo in B flat minor, Op. 31

 

Motoki has appeared in Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia, North and South Africa, performing regularly in prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall in London and Carnegie Hall in New York.  In 2016 Motoki gave recitals in prestigious venues such as Concertgebouw, Amsterdam; Konzerthaus, Vienna; Ginza Oji Hall, Tokyo; and Barbican, London as part of his 2016 World Tour. As a composer, Motoki’s works have been performed in venues including Cadogan Hall, South Bank Centre (London); Expo Milano 2015 (Milan); Smenata Hall (Prague); Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris (Paris); Auditori Pau Casals (Balcelona); Royal Concertgebouw (Amsterdam); Carnegie Hall (NY); as well as Tokyo Opera City, and NHK Hall (Tokyo).  Since the earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan on 11 March 2011, Motoki has organized and participated in over 30 charity performances, raising over £80,000.  Motoki has broadcast internationally on radio and television (Classic FM, BBC, ITV and NHK).
