Kumiko Shuto biwa
A concert of traditional music from Japan featuring music for shakuhachi (Japanese end-blown flute) and biwa (Japanese short-necked lute), performed by leading exponents of these instruments, Kifu Mitsuhashi and Kumiko Shuto. This concert is part of the BBC Symphony Orchestra's Diverse Orchestra week in partnership with the British Council, and Total Immersion: Sounds from Japan - a day of music and film devoted to the music of Toru Takemitsu and the new generation of Japanese composers at the Barbican on Saturday 2 February.
