Japan - U.K. defence cooperation in Disaster Relief Activities in the Philippines

4 December 2013

Amid the strenuous international relief efforts continuing in the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, Japanese and British Forces exchanged their liaison officers on 27 November. In order to carry out the bilateral coordination, Japan's Joint Task Force Captain Tanaka was dispatched to British Royal Navy ship HMS Illustrious, and Lt Cdr Currin to Japanese Maritime Self Force DDH ISE. It is an example of the ongoing defence cooperation between our two countries.
