Since 1st October 2020, foreign nationals had been permitted to newly enter Japan from (in principle) any country/region provided they met the requirements of the Global Residence Track, i.e. provided a host company/organisation could guarantee that disease control measures would be followed. However, as of 24th December 2020 (Japan Standard Time), foreign nationals are currently not permitted to travel from the UK and newly enter Japan under this scheme, until further notice. Specifically, anyone holding a visa for Japan which says “EX-R” in the Remarks section is not permitted to enter Japan using this visa if they have been in the UK in the previous 14 days.
In addition, the Government of Japan has decided that from midnight (JST) on 21st January 2021, the validity of all visas marked as EX-B or EX-R will be temporarily suspended, regardless of where they were issued. This means that holders of such visas will not be permitted to enter Japan.
Until further notice, we will not be able to accept visa applications based on the Global Residence Track scheme, and any applications which we have accepted will take a considerable amount of time to be processed.
New Visits to the Consular Section are by Appointment Only. Appointments can only be booked online.Temporary Change to Consular Operations
