Experience Japan Exhibition 2013

Saturday 16 November 2013, 13:00-18:00 at The Royal Society, London
Admission is free of charge

Just as its eclectic capital Tokyo prepares to welcome the world for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Japan offers many exciting opportunities to discover its rich culture through work and study. Come to the Experience Japan Exhibition and discover the opportunities available to you.

The growing number of English-language degree programmes at Japan’s universities offers you the chance to advance your knowledge in this fascinating country, whatever your level of study. A number of leading Japanese universities will have booths at the event to provide information on these programmes, as well as on the summer courses and other options open to international students.

There will also be a chance to find out about the variety of scholarships and research funding available to enable you to take advantage of these learning opportunities.

The event will also introduce other programmes that allow you to experience Japan, such as the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme. Now in its 27th year, the JET Programme is one of the largest language-exchange programmes in the world. There are currently over 4,000 young people from different countries employed on the programme, working mainly as assistant language teachers throughout Japan.

Throughout the afternoon, a series of seminars will cover everything from the practicalities of living in Japan to the diversity of traditional and modern Japanese culture. In addition to panel sessions by people with experience of studying and working in Japan, experts will introduce participants to Japanese cuisine, language, and pop culture. A detailed programme will be available on the website shortly.

So come along and find your way to Japan – it could be the experience of a lifetime.

Further details on pre-registration and more can be found at the event website.

Internationalization in Japanese Higher Education

The Experience Japan Exhibition is hosted by Keio University as part of its activities under the Global 30 Project for Establishing Core Universities for Internationalization, one of a number of initiatives by the Japanese government for the globalization of Japanese higher education. Launched in the 2009 fiscal year by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the Global 30 Project has allowed Japanese universities to both increase the educational opportunities available to international students and improve the infrastructure for welcoming them. The government continues to actively pursue the promotion of internationalization in Japanese universities; in May this year, the Japanese Cabinet’s Education Rebuilding Implementation Council submitted proposals to double the number of international students in Japan.
