With fewer than 300 days to go until the 2012 London Olympic Games, members of the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) and Japan Institute of Sports Sciences (JISS) travelled to London to inspect the construction progress of the Olympic village.
Forty representatives traveled to London, 19 of who were head coaches and representatives from sporting associations across 15 sports in which the JOC and JISS expect to stand a good chance of winning medals at the Games next year.
In cooperation with the London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG), the representatives inspected the accommodation at the Olympic Village, and the facilities at the Olympic Park and Multi-support house in order to assist in the conditioning of the Olympic athletes. They also exchanged views on the maintenance of the Multi-support house and offered ideas for improvements to the site.
In addition, the representatives were invited to the Embassy of Japan for the first time by Ambassador Keiichi Hayashi for a reception in support of Japan¡Çs 2012 London Olympic Campaign, to encourage and deepen relationships with the Embassy and other Japanese organizations based in the UK, such as Japanese schools and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).
Japan¡Çs top athletes are currently hard at work competing for a place in the Olympic squad. The Japanese representatives in the 2012 London Olympics will not only compete for their country but will demonstrate the solidarity of the nation with the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake of March this year, showing a strong Japan to the world in the aftermath of the disaster. For this reason, we are aiming for 5th place in the Gold medals ranking at the 2012 London Olympics and we hope that you will lend your strong support to our team!
