j.Pod is a Scottish-Japanese innovation, conceived and designed by
a Scottish architect, John Barr, and developed in conjunction with Japanese
construction companies and universities.  The idea was conceived while
John was working and living in Japan through the 1990s and 2000's, when
he witnessed the rapid disappearance of the neighbourhoods of small,
affordable, timber houses that used to be commonplace there and their
replacement with soulless apartment blocks.
