Jah Wobble’s Eastside Matsuri

23 July 2011, London

Great British world-beat and global innovator, Jah Wobble makes a return visit to Stratford Circus to curate our brand-new day long summer festival.

A passionate exponent of music hybrids, his eclectic programming has produced a thrilling day-long celebration of Japanese music, culture and food to ravish the senses.

From ikebana to Taiko drumming, koto, calligraphy and of course Jah Wobble and his Japanese Dub Orchestra, Jah’s Eastside Masturi (or festival) will evoke a sense of the richness and diversity of modern Japan fused with a healthy dose of contemporary British talent.

Londoners will be invited to try their hand at drumming with guidance from Taiko Master,

Joji Hirota and watch a master-class demonstration from his Taiko Drummers (tickets available for performance from website or box office).

Workshops will be on offer in calligraphy and how to make your own delicious sushi – and eat it afterwards.

Join us for afternoon tea Japanese style, to the accompaniment of the beautiful koto or harp, the national instrument of Japan. The day will conclude with another storming performance from Jah Wobble supported by members of his band of world-class musicians, drawn from countries and musical traditions from across the globe. Most workshops are free but a suggested donation will be asked towards the relief fund for Japanese communities affected by the recent environmental disasters.

From 12 Midday until late. Jah Wobble performance 8pm (12+ age recommended for performance).
