This evening class will comprise a 2-hour introduction to Japanese sake tasting aimed at novice sake drinkers in the UK, some of whom may have prior experience with wine tasting at West London Wine School. There will be a Powerpoint lecture outlining sake making history, production methods, ingredients and styles and a tutored tasting of six different sakes accompanied by cheeses, charcuterie and nibbles (to help encourage students to think about pairing sake with common foods enjoyed in the UK). The presentation will also include information about each individual producer/brewery for each sake featured, to help introduce students to the dedicated Japanese craftspeople and personalities involved in the sake brewing industry in Japan. We plan to offer this introductory class multiple times a year, pending demand from students.
West London Wine School received the prestigious WSET Educator of the Year Award in 2018 for the top wine education provider globally – it has won numerous awards for the quality of its teaching and has an average review of 5 stars (highest possible score) on Trip Advisor.
West London Wine School is also launching a new blog to support its beverage course offerings – alongside wine, this will feature articles about Japanese sake aimed at wine drinkers to help encourage them to branch out and give sake a try. The first blog entry can be found here, with further entries written by our sake tutor Sarah Stewart to be published in early 2022 :
Official Class Description from West London Wine School Website :
Looking for something new to drink in 2022? The popularity of sake is growing by leaps and bounds every year - come and find out what all the fuss is about! This amazing fermented beverage has over a thousand years of history and craftsmanship behind it, with styles and flavour profiles as complex and nuanced as anything in the wine or beer world and a comparable alcohol percentage to wine at around 15-16%.
Join us at West London Wine School for an evening Introduction to Sake Tasting to start your journey of discovery. Our sake tutor Sarah will cover the basics of history, ingredients, production and classification, introduce the major styles and show how basic wine tasting principles can easily be applied to sake. We will taste six different styles of sake alongside cheese and nibbles to help enhance flavours and introduce sake and food pairing concepts.
