Japan Festival in Leamington Spa 2022

An exciting, creative and inspiring celebration of all things Japanese takes place in Leamington Spa on Sunday 30th January. The day-long free festival includes a glittering array of activities for all the family.

There will be live performances throughout the day from, amongst others, Japanese drumming team Taiko West, Japanese contemporary theatre performer Fuyuko Morimura and Japanese pop sensation Mion.

Visitors will be able to have a go at traditional Japanese arts and crafts like Ikebana (Japanese flower arranging), Japanese calligraphy and Origami. As well as stalls of glassware, ceramics and Milik haute-couture jewellery, 15 year old local manga and anime artist ‘Hugo will debut his work.

If you’re a foodie, there’s a mouth-watering selection of freshly-made authentic food, including vegan curries, tapas, sweet treats and bento boxes. In addition to traditional Japanese sake on offer, attendees can also take part in a Japanese tea ceremony.

An exhibition of origami from children at Milverton Primary School will also be unveiled. Called ‘Mottainai - which means reduce, reuse and recycle – the exhibition has been created with help from the festival’s creative team using recycled paper from the school.

The event has been organised by Leamington Spa resident Milagros Kuga. She says: ‘We’ve put together an amazing day of everything to do with Japanese culture. I wanted to share a little bit of the country I love with the community here in Leamington.’
