Woman holding Tea bowl

MAKE YOUR OWN TEA BOWL AT PANTECHNICON WITH AKIKO MATSUDA FOR INTERNATIONAL TEA DAY

Celebrate International Tea Day by crafting your own ‘chawan’ tea bowl in this workshop with ceramicist Akiko Matsuda. Learn how to hand-build your own ceramic wares, get your hands dirty and walk away with the satisfaction that you’ve created something you can use every day. Once you’ve made the bowl, choose a colour for you bowl and Akiko will expertly fire and glaze it for you.
The workshop will include a tasting of Everyday Organic Matcha with Sayuri Teas, and a demonstration of the art of whisking matcha – something which Japanese tea masters dedicate years to perfecting. You’ll be shown some key techniques to create a smooth and creamy bowl of usucha ‘thin’ green tea with an even, frothy layer, so you’ll be primed to use your tea bowl after it’s fired.
Tickets cost £70, including all materials to make your tea bowl and for it to be glazed and fired by Akiko at Studio Pottery London, Pantechnicon’s neighbours in Belgravia. Also included is a cup of matcha tea and wagashi sweet. Your fired bowl will be ready for collection from Pantechnicon about 6-8 weeks after the workshop.
