Gallery Tour Series: The Carpenters’ Line

Take a journey through 1,300 years of master carpentry in a series of guided tours celebrating the opening weekend of Japan House London’s new exhibition The Carpenters’ Line: Woodworking Heritage in Hida Takayama. The tours are led by exhibition curator and Japan House London Programming Director Simon Wright alongside special guests from Japan. These include key members of the exhibition curatorial and creative team, Yamada Yū (method Inc.) and design unit SPREAD, in addition to woodworking artisan, Kawakami Shingo from Nissin Furniture Crafters, a leading furniture manufacturer based in the Hida region.

During a tour which reveals behind-the scenes insights into the exhibition curation process, guests can take a closer look at Hida’s extraordinary craftworking legacy from the rich natural resources of Hida’s forests, the tools and techniques developed to work them, to the involvement of Hida craftsmanship in furniture design around the world today.
