SAKE SUPPER CLUB AT PANTECHNICON: TRAVEL THROUGH GUNMA PREFECTURE

On World Sake Day, the first of Pantechnicon’s regular Sake Supper Club series will explore the sake of Gunma, a Japanese prefecture known for its natural beauty, snow-capped mountains, hot springs and fantastic craft sake. During the evening, four distinct sakes from the region will be paired with delicious food by Sachi head chef Collin Hudston.

Gunma sake is celebrated in restaurants across Japan, but is comparatively unknown in the UK. The sake is recognised for its smooth, silky texture – thanks to the softness of the water from the Tone River which is used in its production. The evening is a chance to experience sake from two of the region’s greatest breweries: Tsuchida Sake Brewery and Seitoku Meijo.

You’ll try two very different categories of sake from 17-time Gold Prize winner of the Annual Japan Sake Awards Seitoku Meijo – a futsushu table sake and a premium category jumai daiginjo. Contrasting with this will be two sakes from Tsuchida Sake Brewery made using the ancient, labour-intensive kimoto brewing method and Asahi no Yume rice grown in Gunma Prefecture.

Held in Sachi’s intimate private dining room and with just 20 places available, each of the sakes will be paired with a course of Sachi’s refined Japanese cooking prepared by head chef Colin Hudston. You can see the full menu here.

Tickets: £120 per person for four course dinner paired with sakes from Gunma.
