Meet the Maker: Kumamoto Utsuwa Reborn Project

The Kumamoto Utsuwa Reborn Project began with the creation of kintsugi ceramics using shards of pieces made by five potters that were broken in a series of devastating earthquakes that hit Kumamoto, on Japan’s Kyushu Island in April 2016. Project representative Akira Otaguro has personally hand-carried one of the project’s most precious kintsugi artworks, ‘YOSHI ZAKURA (lit. ‘mended cherry blossom’ 繕桜), from Japan to London to display at Pantechnicon throughout October.

Visit Pantechnicon on Tuesday 18 October to meet representative Akira Otaguro over a glass of sake, hear more about the project and see examples of their latest work. Click here to RSVP to attend and read more about the project here.

YOSHI ZAKURA is on show as part of Pantechnicon’s Kintsugi Month, featuring a shoppable exhibition with the work of prominent contemporary artists, and kintsugi workshops were you can learn the craft from experts and take home a piece you’ve made yourself
