Okinawa Day 2023

Okinawa Day is a yearly festival celebrating the unique music, food, and culture of Japan's southernmost prefecture. Okinawa Prefecture encompasses an archipelago of islands in Southern Japan that formed part of the historic Ryukyu Kingdom and as such has its own distinct music and traditions.

Okinawa Day 2023 will introduce the audience to music and dances from several islands of the Ryukyu archipelago to highlight its incredibly rich cultural diversity.

There will be classical Okinawan folk songs accompanied by the sanshin (lute) as well as traditional Eisa taiko drumming and dance. In addition to music and dance, there will be karate demonstrations (karate originating from Okinawa), as well as Okinawan food and goods stalls.

Okinawa Day is a unique opportunity for everyone to enjoy the beauty and energy of Okinawan culture and promises to be a lively event suitable for all.
Okinawa Day has been running since 2009 and is organised by the London Okinawan Sanshinkai with plans to feature guest performers from around Europe and Japan.

Okinawa Day 2023 will take place in London at Bermondsey's Blue Market (SE16 3UQ) on Saturday 24th June from 11am-5pm.
