Sake Tasting Masterclass on Rice Varietals: Yamada Nishiki, the Kind of Sake Rice

Curious about the different strains of rice used to make Japanese sake? Join us at West London Wine School for the second session in our 3-part sake varietal series to learn all about the most renowned sake rice varietal, the king of them all: Yamada Nishiki.

Yamada Nishiki is the undisputed King of Sake Rice: no other rice varietal is as highly prized, or commands as steep a price. Developed in Hyogo Prefecture in 1923, Yamada Nishiki is now the most widely grown sake rice in Japan and is an essential ingredient for making award-winning sake: brewers fight to purchase the top grades of rice from the dedicated farmers working these plots each year. Join us for this premium sake tasting and experience what Yamada Nishiki is capable of first-hand!
This class is suitable for all sake knowledge levels.  Guests can book in for just a single session in the series as a standalone class, or join for the full three-week series. During the session you will taste six premium sake made using Yamada Nishiki rice from across a range of styles, accompanied by fine cheeses and Japanese-inspired nibbles.
