B Drakeford Porcelain Yellow Bowl with Bronze Rim , I Sanderson Mi meaning Beauty Etching
Exhibition of ceramics by Bridget Drakeford and suibokuga and prints by Irene Sanderson, both artists with a lifelong interest in Japan where they have both studied and taught.
Bridget Drakeford is a Mashiko Ceramics Competition prizewinner. Her work follows European and Oriental traditions of basic simplicity expressed in the fluidity of porcelain. Firings may be reduction or oxidised and wood and precious metals are used for finely detailed fixings. All have the finesse of finish and fine hues that make Bridget’s work very collectable and much sought after.
Irene Sanderson, a post graduate student at Kyoto University of Fine Art, is showing calligraphic works and paintings on Japanese paper with sumi and watercolour incorporating methods and techniques of suibokuga where immediacy and energy of line join with the action of the saturated colours. Also featured are studies from her collection Shrines of aspects of Shintō shrines made during recent research in Japan.
