YOKIMONO JAPANESE MARKET - summer ‘24-

YOKIMONO (meaning ‘good things’ in Japanese) JAPANESE MARKET is a Japan-themed market and cultural event in East London. (FREE ENTRY) .

Traders will be offering; authentic Japanese food & sweets (such as okonomiyaki, sushi, takoyaki, fruit-mochi, tea, wagashi and matcha ice cream) , vintage kimono, ukiyoe & illustrations, books & comics, clothing, jewellery and much more – all made in Japan, or produced by Japanese artists in London.

As well as a wide variety of market stalls, there will be live performances from Japanese musicians such as Okinawa Minyo folk dance & shamisen music, BON-ODORI (Japanese folk dance for summer festivals), Japanese Indie Rock Band (Deadbeat Painters & Nobuki Akiyama of the DYGL), and demonstrations of Furoshiki eco-wrap, Kimono (this time we focus on YUKATA, summer cotton kimono) dressing.

There will also be fun and friendly workshops of TEA CEREMONY, Kokedama BONSAI Ball Making, and WAGASHI (Vegan and Gluten free soft Japanese sweets in Sakura cherry blossoms shape) making workshops.

Visitors can explore traditional and contemporary Japanese food and culture in Hackney.
