Make Your Own NUNO Scarf

Join us at Japan House London for a special hands-on experience in textile creation as part of our series of events with Sudō Reiko as she visits Japan House London in conjunction with our current exhibition Design Discoveries: Towards a DESIGN MUSEUM JAPAN.

Known for pushing the boundaries of textile production, Sudō Reiko and her team at NUNO integrate Japanese dyeing and weaving traditions with cutting-edge technology and experimental finishing methods, while combining diverse materials such as cotton, silk, metal and paper. The results are original and distinctive textiles which can be functional lifestyle items produced on an industrial scale or individual works of art in their own right.

During this event, participants receive a brief introduction to the history of NUNO and the characteristics of their textiles. Following this, they have the rare opportunity to create their own original scarves using NUNO fabrics, guided by Sudō Reiko herself. This workshop not only provides a chance to learn directly from a leading figure in contemporary design but also to explore the future possibilities of Japanese textile artistry.

The event starts at 18:00 and will last for about 90 minutes.

This event is part of a series featuring Sudō Reiko offering a special insight into Japan House London’s exhibition Design Discoveries: Towards a DESIGN MUSEUM JAPANand her broader work. It is followed by a livestreamed talk focussing on the significance of Sudō Reiko’s work over the years on Saturday 17 August. Sudō also visits V&A Dundee on Monday 19 August for two special guided tours highlighting her contribution to their Kimono: Kyoto to Catwalkexhibition.

Please note that filming and photography may take place at this event. Photos and footage of the event may then be used to promote Japan House London, helping more people to discover what we offer. If you have any concerns, please contact us online or contact a member of the team on site.

Tickets for the event are non-refundable. Please read our Terms and Conditions for Event Ticketsbefore purchasing your ticket.
