This course starts with a visit to the Watts Gallery to view the exhibition, 'Edo Pop: Japanese Prints 1825 - 1895'. There, students will have opportunity to be inspired by the intricate Japanese woodblock prints that portray daily life in Edo (now known as Tokyo), as well as a site-specific installation by tutor Hiroko Imada. Sketch designs in the gallery to prepare the design of your own print.
On days 2-5, the course will move to the studios at the School of Traditional arts, where participants will learn how to make a colour woodblock print. By the end of the course, you will have made your own print and have the basic knowledge for making your own prints independently.
